Delhi:

Shopping:

Transport: The Delhi Metro is modern & comfortable.

Places we visited: India Gate, Gandhi Marg & Museum, Humayun’s Tomb, Lodi Garden, Khan Market, Akshardam (weird), Baha’i Temple.

Places we wanted to visit but didn’t have time: Red Fort, Jama Masjid, National Museum, Qutb Minar, Lakshmi Narayan Temple.

Agra:

Saniya Palace Hotel for views of the Taj Mahal from a rooftop

Can be done as a day trip from Delhi. Must purchase train tickets in advance from Delhi Train Station. I recall that the office was up 1 flight of stairs. There is a form to fill out & a separate queue for foreigners.

Places we visited: Taj Mahal & Agra Fort.

Amritsar:

Restaurant: Brothers darbar has yummy thalis with panner & try the lassi too.

Shopping: Katya Jaimal Singh Shop/market for Punjabi shoes also known as punjabi jutti. I didn’t buy any because I didn’t have the time or space in my bag.

Places we visited: Golden Temple & Wagah border.

Manali:

Accomodation: Sunshine Guest House – we wanted to stay there in Modern Manali but it was fully booked . It  had a nice courtyard with roses.

Food: Vaishist World Peace

Places we visited: Hot Spring at the Temple & Jogini Waterfall

Dharamshala/McLeod-Ganj:

Accommodation: Om Guesthouse. Clean, great views, convenient.

Restaurants:

1.Gakya Veg which had a lot of Tibetan vegetarian food. Try the momos. We ate here almost daily.

2. Moonpeak had really lovely thalis & WiFi. www.moonpeak.org

Places we visited:

1.Art : Norbulingka http://www.norbulingka.org The bus from Lower Dharamshala to Sidhpur was about 5 Rupees & then we had a short walk

2. Tsuglagkhang Complex houses the Kalachakra Temple, Tibet Museum. Watch the monks debate in the afternoon & attend a prayer session.

Leh, Ladakh

Adventure Activities:

Jeep Transport from Leh–>Srinagar: Leh Trekdi office. Parking Zangsti Road, Leh 194101 Ladakh lehtrekdi@gmail.com. Try booking this early because prices are quite volatile.

Restaurants:

Breakfast : Bon Apetit Restaurant

Lunch & Dinner: Grill ‘n’ Curry Restaurant, White House Complex, Fort Road, Leh, Ladakh 194101

Lala’s art cafe: small cafe which is supposed to be popular but didn’t appeal to me.

Shopping:

1.I recommend going to this place if you want real Pashmina/Cashmere products

2. Warm clothing: If you need coats, there are second hand shops in Leh. Knitted gloves, scarfs etc sold for cheap from the vendors too.

3. Tibetan Refugee Market. A lot of stalls sell nice trinkets & gorgeous jewellery.

Places we wanted to visit but didn’t have time: Nubra Valley/Panggong Tso/Tso Moriri. Apply in advance through a travel agency in Leh because your tourist permits needs at least a day to sort out & spaces are limited.

There are a variety of hikes which you can do in Leh.

Kashmir:

Keep updated with news to see if it is safe to visit Srinagar. We had to delay our trip here by a day because of security reasons.

Go to the airport early because the security checks are crazy & long.

Shopping: Kashmir Government Emporium off Residency Road

Restaurant: Mughal Darbar Ground floor residency Road, Srinagar. For Biryani & meat. What a feast we had.

Places we visited:

1. The Gardens: Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, Pari Mahal.

2. Jama Masjid & Khanqah of Shah-i-Hamdan

3.Shankaracharya Hill
